Have you ever wanted to enter a food contest and win, win, win? This could be your chance!

Yes, you, too, could be a winner!
Or not! But you'll never know if you don't enter! (Don't you love contest speak - all exclamation points and enthusiasm. I AM SO DARN EXCITED HERE!)

So, without further ado, I announce the one, the only, the stupendous - or, at least, I assume it is ...

Rev Up Your Rice! (exclamation point theirs) 9th annual recipe contest

If you've been itching to enter a recipe contest, here's you chance. Assuming you are an adult and a U.S. resident (can't have those wacky Canadians entering American contests, by gawd, just think if they won or something), all you have to is create an original, unpublished rice recipe.

It must use at least 1 cup uncooked rice (doh!), take half an hour or less to make, and use no more than six ingredients (excluding butter, margarine, oil, water, salt and ground black pepper so, clearly, it is okay with the USA Rice Federation, who are running this contest, if you went hog-wild with these). It can be any type of dish, from appetizer to dessert, and will be judged on taste, appearance, ease of preparation, and creativity.

$5,000 grand prize for the winning recipe
Six finalists will each receive $1,000 and all winners will also receive a rice cooker. Which I would think they will not need, after making an award-winning rice recipe. But I digress. And interject. Neither of which is nice. But now I'm rambling, so ...

The seven winning recipes will be printed in the USA Rice Winning Recipes Brochure, which is sure to make their PR department very, very happy.

Dateline: Cook-off
The contest is open NOW, but you only have until Sunday, April 15, 2007, to get your recipes in. So fire up those burners (or plug in those rice cookers) and get those pots a' water (or rice cookers) a' warmin' (or a' heatin').

Do it by the book
Interested? Then go visit the USA Rice Federation site to get the nitty gritty.

And may the force be with you.
