Speaking of Trader Joe's and high fructose corn syrup and ketchup of all things ...

We've decided to purge Heinz from our lives. Yeah, we know it's tasty. And, yeah, we know it is beloved of ketchup-eaters, everywhere. But there it is. The sneaky ingredient we are trying to exorcise from our diets. Lurking on the ingredient label.

High fructose corn syrup.

So on to Plan "B." Which we find, not all that surprisingly, at Trader Joe's.

Trader Joe's rides to the rescue
Eventually, we're going to have to bite the bullet and make our own ketchup. The reason we haven't done it to-date is that the homemade stuff just goes bad too quickly.

You see, they problem with being an Almost Vegetarian (well, us, at any rate) is that we don't eat all that much meat. Little meat = no hamburgers. No hamburgers means ketchup is pretty much used exclusively for potato wedges. Which we just don't eat that often. But when we do eat it, we typically gotta have ketchup.

So we needed a solution that would last. Which we found. At Trader Joe's.

Trader Joe's Organic Ketchup
Here's the ingredient list: Organic tomato puree, organic sugar, salt, organic white vinegar, organic onion powder, organic spices. And thass all, folks!

Not thrilled about the sugar but, hey look ma!, no high fructose corn syrup. Pretty good. And we like the taste; sorta like Heinz but a bit spicier.

And did I mention the lack of high fructose corn syrup?

Trader Joe's finds
I was pretty pleased with this, our newest Trader Joe's find. In fact, I find I am starting to think about them for all sorts of staples. Ingredients seem to be pretty good and the prices seem to be reasonable. So, the question is, what Trader Joe's goodie should we try next?
