The tiny Meryl Streep (most recently seen, I believe, in The Devil Wears Prada, although I liked her best in Out of Africa) will play the 6-foot-and-counting tall Julia Child in a movie.
But not just any movie. Oh no! This one is based on a book.
A book by a food blogger (not me, so don't get too excited).
Yep! It turns out that Meryl Streep will be playing Julia Child in the Columbia Pictures movie Julie & Julia. The film is an adaptation of the 2005 book by Julie Powell which is based on her blog.
You see, Julie Powell, a ridiculously bored government worker, decides to spend one year cooking a different recipe every night from Child's classic, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Powell blogs about her daily experiences.
Now, while Julia Child is, of course, a presence throughout the venture (it is, after all, her cookbook that serves as the basis for it all), she barely makes much of an in-person appearance in the book (or the blog, for that matter). In fact, she doesn't really show up for anything more than the very odd glimpse.
So what, exactly, is Ms. Streep to do, actually?
Nora Ephron wrote the script and is directing, so it should be fun.
