And, don't forget, there is a contest coming up where you can win all sorts of lovely free goodies (because free is best!).
Pretty is as pretty does
For some expert advice on how to buy healthy skin care products, I turned to Whole Foods whole body coordinator Jeremiah McElwee who was kind enough to answer all my questions.
I’ve been shopping department store skin care brands all my life. Why should I switch to a skin care brand from Whole Foods?
You are guaranteed that all products we sell are NOT tested on animals and are the best choices for natural personal care products available.
What are the key differences between department store brands and the brands you carry?
Higher concentration of natural, botanically derived ingredients…never tested on animals.
Are there certifications I should look for? Which ones and why?
The best option is to look for the USDA Organic seal. Many products are being certified or are certified so this will become more predominant. Also look for QAI (Quality Assurance International) as another reputable certifier for organics.
How do your different brands differ?
Brands like Dr. Hauschka skin care are the most natural products available and contain biodynamically farmed ingredients…Other brands like Nature’s Gate, Jason, Avalon Organics offer affordable options for customers just getting their feet (or faces) wet.
What are some of the best products you carry? Why these?
Dr. Hauschka, Dr. Bronner’s, Aubrey Organics are all brands that are of the highest quality and well loved by our customers.
What do you recommend for mature skin and why?
Less is more but we would look to recommend products that have a high concentration of antioxidants such as Vitamin C or CoQ10.
What sun blocks do you recommend for the face and why?
Dr. Hauschka offers a wonderful facial sun block that is very gentle and suits the face well.
What is the advantage of “natural” products?
Natural products help to limit or reduce the overall ‘chemical load’ your body is exposed to every day…What you put on your body is as important as what you put in your body.
Whole Foods has even more information here. It's not as in-depth as we would like but, hey, it's a good start.
And stay tuned for your chance to win all sorts of natural care products.
